(USA Boxing Certified Coach)

Joe Donovan was introduced to boxing by his father Joey Donovan (The Astoria Assassin), a former
prize fighter. His childhood was filled with stories of his
father's amateur and professional boxing career, and by the
time he was a teenager, Joe Donovan was sparring regularly. By the
time he reached his 20's, years of practice and inherited
natural ability made him a serious contender in local amateur
boxing tournaments.
Joe Donovan went on to fight out of South Queens Boys Club under
Tommy Gallager and Joe Gallo. He sparred on a regular basis
with former world champions, Vito Antuofermo, Mark Breland
and Mike McCallum. He also trained and fought under Pete Brodsky of the West Hempstead PAL and out of Billy McCoy's Boxing
Gym in Freeport, Long Island.
Joe Donovan fought in the Golden Gloves three times, in 1984,
1986, and 1997, and he won the metro boxing tournament in
1997. Although he gained much success in the ring, Joe Donovan realized
that his natural ability was as a teacher and boxing trainer. Joe
Donovan has been teaching boxing for the last thirteen years.
He brings intensity, versatility and simplicity to boxing.
